Fun with Colours : Poster Making, Rangoli and Cartooning Competition on 17th March, 2022

Faculty of Business studies organized FUN WITH COLOURS on 17th march, 2022. FUN WITH COLOURS Event organized to celebrate the Holi Festival. 

The session was started with the warm welcome of all the participants and judges of the day. Faculty of Business studies organized poster making competition,  under the theme of Holi Festival on this day. Students of different streams participated in the event. 

The students expressed their views and thoughts about the sacred festival of colours by drawing, making rangolies and cartooning. One could see and feel the enthusiasm that the students had in their presentation. This activity kept the student engaged and it was organized to explore and encourage creativity in students and offer them a platform to showcase their skills. It inspired them to think and work creatively in order to promote artistic excellence. 

Students from different streams also performed Guest items( Dance, standup comedy and singing) to make it more attractive and interesting and after the completion of the competition Judges declared the winners and one of the judges  Manmeet kaur professor of art and craft told why the particular students stood on 1st and 2nd position as well as about the importance of holi festivals and the different ways to celebrate it.

In the end Dr. Sachin Dev (Principal BFCMT) Ms. Neetu Singh (Dean Faculty of Management & Commerce) honoured the winners of poster making , Rangoli and Cartooning competition. In Rangoli Pooja and Raveena student of B.Com Final year got first position and Gunjan and Navneet from B.Com final year  got 2nd position,  In poster making Monika paul student of B.com first year got 1st position and Gurpreet kaur student of B.A. second year grabbed 2nd position and In Cartooning Akash student of BCA Final year  secured 1st position and Saurav kumar student of BCA second year got 2nd position.

n the end Dr. Sonia head of department appreciated all the students and congratulated to the whole department of commerce for the successful completion of event. On the whole, it was an interesting and very informative session. 

1-Day Orientation Programme for B.Com&M.Com Even Semester Students (Batch 2021-23)

Department of Commerce of Baba Farid College organized "1-Day Orientation Programme" for the students of B.Com and M.Com (Batch 2021-23) through offline mode. The inauguration of this programme was on 28-02-2022 and it was successfully completed. All the students were actively participated in this and they learnt a lot during the whole programme of orientation.

Orientation was started with the introduction of upcoming semester, department, faculty and their eligibility criteria for appearing in examination as well as working style of whole system, whereas it was ended with student games. A number of activities such as introducing the placed students with other students and guest performances, games(Commerce atlas) were conducted to enhance their knowledge . Along with it, students were told about the live projects in detail. TA (Teaching Assistant) role and responsibilities as well as details of various clubs, committees and cells of BFC were also discussed with students. Students asked many queries during these sessions from the key note speakers and cleared their doubts.

Mr. Sukhmander singh (Incharge, Department of Commerce, BFC) appreciated the students for their involvement and gave them motivational speech for attending the upcoming semester with great enthusiasm as well as congratulated the whole B.Com department for this quality orientation program for B.Com students. On the whole, it was an interesting and informative programme.

Career Guidance session for B.Com final year students on 17 December 2021

In order to ensure students' orientation towards their future, Department of Commerce in collaboration with Career Guidance and Counseling Cell, Baba Farid College organized a career guidance session for B.Com final year students on 17 December 2021 in the main seminar hall. The main agenda of the session was to give an in-depth detail of the career opportunities for the management students after they complete their formal education.

The expert for the session was Mr. B.D Sharma, Deputy Director(Activities), Baba Farid Group of Institutions. On behalf of the department, Ms. Manpreet, student of B.Com 5th Sem welcomed the guest speaker.

In his address, Mr. Sharma thoroughly explained about the career opportunities and skill-oriented courses to the students. Furthermore, he highlighted on the corporate jobs for the prospective graduates.He motivated students to focus on their inner strength and he made them realize that the success depends upon hard work not on destiny. The students can definitely brighten their future with their hard and smart work. He supported his address with real life examples and anecdotes which helped the students to relate more with his talk. He clearly laid huge emphasis on positive attitude in work place culture and also in life, in general. the students asked him various questions which were skillfully resolved by Mr. Sharma.

Ms. Neetu Singh, Dean (Faculty of Management and Commerce) proposed a formal vote of thanks. ON the whole, the event was a huge success.

Expert talk for the PG students by Dr. Raj Kumar Uppal, Principal (BFCMT, Bathinda)

The Department of Commerce in collaboration with Research and Development Cell, Baba Farid College organized an Expert talk for the PG students of the Department of Commerce. The topic in discussion was 'How to write a quality Research Paper?' With an increasing emphasis on research in teaching pedagogy, it becomes necessary to guide and orient the students towards quality research.

Mr. Simranjit Singh, Coordinator, R & D Cell, BFC welcomed the expert and the students. The expert for the talk was Dr. Raj Kumar Uppal, Principal (BFCMT, Bathinda). Dr. Uppal holds significant experience in teaching and research and has been mentoring many scholars for their PHd thesis.

He enlightened the students with the process of writing quality research paper systematically. He also shared various sources for reference for writing good research paper. The session was not only beneficial for the students but for the faculty members as well. The students clarified their doubts as well. On the whole, the event was a great success.

One Day Seminar on Emotional Intelligence on 29.11.2021

In order to ensure holistic development of the students, Department of Commerce in collaboration with Placement Cell, BFC organized a One Day Seminar on 'Emotional Intelligence' on 29.11.2021.

The Guest Speaker of the event was Mr. Amanjeet Singh Bhandari, Training and Placement Officer, Akal University, Talwandi Sabo. Ms. Babia Narang, Head of the department welcomed the guest and the students.

Mr. Bhandari talked about various nuances of Emotional Intelligence. He began with defining the concept and how it can be useful for the students during their academics and in general life as well.

The students were really intrigued to know more about the concept and even asked questions from the guest. The Placement Cell has always been organizing similar activities in order to prepare the students for professional market. In the end, Ms. Neetu Singh (Dean, Faculty of Management and Commerce) proposed formal vote of thanks.

Intra-department Business Quiz competition on 1.11.2021

Department of Commerce organized an intra-department Business Quiz competition on 1.11.2021. More than 45 students participated in the quiz. It was an online quiz and it was conducted properly in formatted time. The questions were based on Business and Commerce.

Winners of the Quiz were: Gurkirat Singh - 1st position, Armandeep Kaur - 2nd position - B.Com IIIrd, Sem Rishu Bala - 3rd position - B.Com Ist Sem

Winners were awarded and congratulated by the Head of the department.

Karwa Chauth Festival on 22.10.2021

In order to celebrate Karwa-Chauth festival, Department of Commerce in association with Cultural Club, BFC organized an Inter-Departmental Henna Designing Competition on 22.10.2021. The students showed a great enthusiasm for the event.

They showed a lot of creativity and intricacy in beautiful designs of henna. More than 20 students participated in the event.

Judgment for the event was done by Ms. Babia Narang and Ms. Nisha. First position was bagged by Udiksha (B.Com sem 3rd), followed by Gudia Bansal (B.Com sem 3rd).

Event in-charge Ms. Pawandeep Kaur proposed a formal vote of thanks.

On the whole, the event was a great success and the students enjoyed a lot in festive spirit.

Freshers party "Aagman"

Department of Commerce of Baba Farid College, Bathinda organized Freshers' party Aagman for the first-year students of Bachelor of Commerce and Master of Commerce.The organizing committee of B.Com and M.Com 2nd year presented various performances of dance, music, poetry and comedy. A dedicated modeling round was also planned for the newcomers which was judged by Mr. Davinder Pal Singh (Department of Agriculture, BFC) and Dr. Kiran (Department of Agriculture, BFC). Sukhman Singh bagged the title of 'Mr. Fresher' and Akanksha was titled 'Ms. Fresher'. Himanshu won the title of 'Mr. Handsome' and Manpreet Kaur bagged the title of 'Ms. Charming'. Navdeep Singh was declared Best Performer.

Online Alumni Meet via Microsoft Teams on 3rd August, 2021

In order to go down the memory lane, Department of Commerce in association with Alumni Association, Baba Farid College Bathinda organized Online Alumni Meet via Microsoft Teams on 3rd August, 2021. A large number of pass-out students of the department came together to share their experiences of the graduation and post-graduation years in the college.

Ms. Neetu Singh, Dean (Faculty of Management and Commerce) proposed a formal welcome address. She really appreciated the over-whelming response of the students for the meet.

Ms. Sukhdeep Kaur, Head of the Department highlighted the achievements of the department for the past few years. Ms. Amrit Taggar was the host for the event.

There were a lot of fun games and guest performances as well. Since, the event was organized online which gave an easy window to the alumni to connect easily from their work places from different parts of the world.

The Alumni shared their amazing memories with all. Such alumni meets really helps to strengthen the bond between the college and the pass-out students.

Finally, Dr. Pardeep Kaura, Principal of the college presented a formal vote of thanks and he also gave his best wishes to the students.

Alumni Talk on "Importance of Higher Education" on 16.04.2021

In order to sensitise the students about their career, Department of Commerce in association with Alumni Association, Baba Farid College, Bathinda organised an Alumni Talk on 'Importance of Higher Education' on 16.04.2021 via Microsoft Teams.

The Alumnus for the talk was Mr. Prashant Ranjan (Batch 2014-17) who is currently working as Business Development Associate, Hygienic Research Institute Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai.

Mr. Ranjan initiated his conversation with a special emphasis on investing in higher education. He insisted that higher education will help them to choose their area of interest and further more pin down the desired company. Mr. Ranjan strongly advocated that right mindset in the early years of education is important for long-term success in life.

Furthermore, he shared questions asked during interviews from his personal experience. He even gave certain significant tips and guidelines to crack the interviews smoothly. The address was followed by due discussion where students asked various questions. On the whole, the event was a real success and the students felt really motivated.

One Day Seminar on UGC-NET Preparation

The Department of Commerce, Baba Farid College in association with Guidance and Counseling Cell organized a One Day Seminar on UGC-NET Preparation for the students of M.Com on 17-03-2021 in the college campus. In this session, different ways and methods for the preparation of UGC-NET exam were discussed with the students.

The Resource person for the same was Mr. Amanjeet Singh Bhandari, Assistant Professor, Akal University, Talwandi Sabo. Ms. Pavneet Kaur, Head of the Department welcomed the guest

To begin with, Mr. Bhandari discussed the main points regarding UGC exam in Commerce and Management. He threw light on all sections of the paper, important subjects and overall structure/organization of the exam.

He explained the main 10 subjects of paper 1 and units of paper 2 such as Business Environment, Accounting, Auditing, Business Economics, Finance, Statistics & Research Methods, Human Resource Management and many more. He also told tips how a student should practice in both papers. Moreover, he apprised the students with the books which can be referred to as preparatory material.

Students had many queries and they got their doubts clarified. In the end, Ms. Neetu Singh, Dean (Faculty of Management and Commerce) proposed a formal vote of thanks. On the whole, it was indeed an informative session.

International Women's Day on 8.03.2021

In order to celebrate the Elegance of the Womanhood, Department of Commerce in collaboration with Women Development Cell, Baba Farid College celebrated International Women's Day on 8.03.2021.

The major highlights of the day were Inter-College Solo Singing Competition, Solo Dance Competition, Miss Perfectionist and Dress up with the newspaper. The students participated with full gusto and showcased their talents.

Dr. Pardeep Kaura, Principal, BFC inaugurated the event and gave best wishes to the participants. He significantly highlighted the importance of the International Women's Day and motivated the girls to become successful in their passion with hardwork and diligence.

In all, more than 100 students participated in all the events. In Solo Dance Competition, Ramandeep Kaur (B.Com) was declared the winner. In Solo Singing Competition, Shinderpal Kaur (CSE) was declared the winner. Navjot Kaur Lambi was given appreciation award. In Dress up with the newspaper, Manpreet Kaur (B.Com) and Gurpreet Kaur (B.A) were the winners. In Miss. Perfectionist, Akashdeep (B.Com) was declared the winner. Diksha (B.Ed) and Sejal (B.Com) were given appreciation awards.

Sharma (Deputy Director, Activities, BFGI), Mr. R.K.Uppal (Principal,BFCMT), Mr. Parminder Singh (Dean Student Welfare, BFC), Ms. Neetu Singh (Dean, Faculty of Management and Commerce), Ms. Navninder Dhillon (Dean, Faculty of Arts), Ms. Seema Ahuja (Coordinator, Women Development Cell,BFC) gave away prizes and blessings to the winners.

Expert Talk on Mutual Funds

In order to apprise the students about Mutual Funds, The Department of Commerce of Baba Farid College, Bathinda organized an Expert Talk on Mutual Funds via Microsoft Teams on 03.03.2021. The guest speaker for the event was Mr. Manish Mittal, Mutual Fund Distributor (An Investment & Financial Awareness Initiative).

Ms. Pavneet Kaur, Head of the Department welcomed the speaker. He thoroughly explained about the process of mutual funds and benefits of the investment. He highlighted various comparative factors which makes mutual fund investment a better alternative that other forms of investment primarily on security and return.

Mr. Mittal provided detailed information on how to invest in mutual funds and ultimately convert it into cash. He proposed this investment to be significant retirement plan, marriage plan, and education plan. Moreover, he also enlightened the audience with various risks involved in such sort of investment and how they can be avoided. The students were really intrigued by the discussion and asked various follow up questions to the speaker. Ms. Neetu Singh Dean (Faculty of Management and Commerce) proposed a formal vote of thanks.

Inter-class Poster Making Competition on 'Say No to Polythene' on 24.02.2021

In order to inculcate consciousness about the environment, the Department of Commerce in collaboration with the NSS Unit, Baba Farid College Bathinda organized an inter-class Poster Making Competition on 'Say No to Polythene' on 24.02.2021.

The students participated with great enthusiasm. They showcased their artistic skills significantly highlighting important message through their artwork. Ms. Pavneet Kaur, Head of the department welcomed all the participants and wished them good luck.

The judgment of the event was done by Dr. Nayanpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor in Management. Winners of the event were Manpreet Kaur from B.Com sem 4th and Simran Kaur from B.Com sem 6th.

Ms. Neetu Singh, Dean (Faculty of Management and Commerce) honored and congratulated the winners and motivated them to continue participating in the upcoming events as well.

Virtual Industrial Visit of Yakult, Haryana via Microsoft Teams

In order to showcase the field work, the Department of Commerce in association with the Training and Placement Department of Baba Farid College organized a virtual Industrial Visit of Yakult, Haryana via Microsoft Teams.  The virtual visit was coordinated by Mr. Aadish, Executive, PR Dept. of Yakult Danone India Pvt. Ltd., Haryana. Ms. Pavneet, Head of the department welcomed the guest.
He initiated his presentation with the brief history of Yakult. As Yakult is a Pro-biotic, so he also discussed it in detail.  Furthermore, he focused on the philosophy of Shrito-ism devised by Dr. Minoru Shirotu which laid the foundation seeds for the product.

Moving on, he showcased the manufacturing, filling, packaging and Quality control of the Brand highlighting the key features of the product along with its benefits. He even shared the active databases of the consumption and supply of the Yakult which is around 40 million in number in the country and abroad. Mr. Aadish significantly pointed out that around 1 Million bottles are manufactured everyday to meet the requirement providing employment to n number of people including 300 Yakult ladies in the distribution channels advocating women empowerment.

On the whole, the event was a great success wherein the students could see the in-field procedures virtually and learn the insights. In the end, Ms. Neetu Singh, Dean (Faculty Management & Commerce) proposed a formal vote of thanks.

One Day Seminar on 14th Dec. 2020

In order to enlighten the students about the role of ethics in the field, the Commerce Club (Department of Commerce) of Baba Farid College organized a One Day Seminar on 14.12.2020 via Microsoft Teams.

The key note speaker of the event was Dr. Harpreet Singh, Assistant Professor, University School of Business Studies, Punjabi University Campus, Talwandi Sabo. Ms. Neetu Singh, Dean (Faculty of Management & Commerce) presided over the event.

On behalf of the Department, Ms. Amrit Taggar welcomed and introduced the speaker to the audience.

Dr. Singh initiated his conversation with simple explanation of what Ethics are and how quintessential they are in Business and Commerce and for that matter in every field. He continued his address with the description of various types of ethics and why managers should behave ethically. He skillfully described the pattern of how ethics function in a work place. He significantly explained to the students on how to make ethical judgments. In fact, he listed out ethical principles in his presentation.

The address was followed by the interaction with the students. On the whole, the session was really informative and learning for the students.

Seminar on 'How to File ITR' on 10th Dec. 2020

In order to create awareness in the students to be responsible citizens of the country, the Department of Commerce of Baba Farid College organized a One Day Seminar on 'How to File ITR' on 10.12.2020 via Microsoft Teams.

The key note speaker for the event was CA Ankur Khunger, Khunger & Associates LLP, Chandigarh. On behalf of the department, Ms. Rabia Narang introduced the speaker and welcomed him. Ms. Neetu Singh, Dean (Faculty of Management & Commerce) was presiding over the event.

Mr. Khunger gave a very detailed presentation on Income Tax Return filing. He initiated his address with the description of ITR and he also gave the list of required documents for the same. He highlighted the role of PAN and thoroughly described the nature of the alphanumeric characters of the Permanent Account Number of an individual/firm. Furthermore, he described various ITR forms such as ITR 1- 4 and he also briefed as to what all is included in each of the forms. This was followed by some questions from the end of the students.

On the whole, the session was quite informative for the students as well as the faculty. Finally, Ms. Pavneet Kaur, Head of the Department proposed a formal vote of thanks.

Webinar on 'Effective Interviewing' on 7th Dec. 2020

In order to orient the student towards their future planning, the Department of Commerce of Baba Farid College in association with Training and Placement Department, BFGI organized a one day Webinar on 'Effective Interviewing' on 7th Dec. 2020 via Microsoft Teams.

The Expert for the event was Ms. Babia Narang, Coordinator (Training and Placement, BFC). She has been helping the students in her teaching career to groom for effective interviews for their job placement. Ms. Pavneet Kaur, Head of the department welcomed the expert. Ms. Neetu Singh, Dean (Faculty of Management and Commerce) was presiding over the event.

Ms. Narang initiated her talk with some basic questions as to what an interview is and how it can be of various types. Furthermore, she continued her conversation to the kind of skills required when appearing in an interview and certain tips that should be kept in mind. Her focus was also on the kind of language that should be used in interview setting. She made sure to discuss various nuances of effective interviews and how the skills required for the same can be learnt.

Her address to the students was followed by certain questions. On the whole the event was quite a success and students learnt a lot about effective interviewing skills.

Talk Show - By our Esteemed Alumnus

The Alumni Association of Baba Farid College and Department of Commerce organized 'Talk Show - By our Esteemed Alumnus' via Microsoft Teams. The Alumnus for the talk was Mr. Piyush Jindal from Batch 2016-19 who is currently working as Relationship Manager, Kotak Mahindra Bank.

On behalf of the department, Ms. Rabia Narang welcomed the guest.

The Almunus shared his personal experiences and memories associated with the college and also highlighted how the college helped him to land into his current job. In addition to this, Mr. Piyush also shared some tips and tricks through which the students can get jobs after their graduation.

Furthermore, he shared some opportunities which can be utilized by the students in higher studies and job in the future. It was a great talk where in the current students of the department were really getting inspired from the anecdotes and ideas shared by Mr. Jindal.

Finally, Ms. Pavneet Kaur, Head of the department proposed a formal vote of thanks. On the whole, the event was a great success.

Folk Fusion - An Online Dance Competition

In order to keep the students in high spirits, the Dance club and the Department of Commerce of Baba Farid College organized 'Folk Fusion - An Online Dance Competition' via Microsoft Teams. The guests for the event were Mr. Naresh Singla, Dean (Student Welfare), Ms. Neetu Singh, Dean (Faculty of Management & Commerce).

The event witnessed a great resposne from the students who sent their entries for the competition showcasing variety of dance forms wherein they incorported folk dance as well. The judgement of the event was done by Ms. Amandeep Kaur, Head (Department of Geography).

In the results, the first positon was secured by Vartika from BBA sem 3rd followed by tie on second place with Anuja from B.Com sem 3rd and Sonakshi from BBA sem 3rd.

Mr. Singla congratulated the students and he also encouraged them to pariticipate more in the future. Ms. Singh admired the students' enthusiasm for the event and she also appreciated the organizers for pulling off a successful event.

Finally, Ms. Pavneet Kaur, Head (Department of Commerce) proposed a formal vote of thanks and congratulated the winners once again. On the whole, the event was a great success.

One Day Seminar on the topic "Own your future - Be an Entrepreneur"

The Entrepreneurship club and the Department of commerce of Baba Farid College organized a One Day Seminar on the topic 'Own your future - Be an Entrepreneur' via Microsoft Teams. The main agenda of the seminar was to instill the idea of being a successful Entrepreneur in budding minds of the students and if their calling is in this field, they should start their planning accordingly from the present day.

The key note Speaker for the seminar was Mr. Vikrant, Owner/Partner in Turn Key Builders & Verma Sales Corporation, Bathinda. Mr. Vikrant shared various nuances of the field of entrepreneurship with the students. The seminar was presided over by Ms. Neetu Singh Dean (Faculty of Management and Commerce).

On behalf of the department, Ms. Shampreet Kaur welcomed the speaker and other guests.

Mr. Vikrant happens to be an alumnus of the college as well as he pointed to the benefit of the internship which was provided to him through the placement cell of the college which helped him to gain relevant experience. He laid immense emphasis on the importance of creativity and creative ideas when it comes to business as it is that one factor which distinguishes one from its competitors.
Moreover, he motivated the student to think about their goals and plans right away and start planning right away. He encouraged students to have a vision and a mission in life in order to have a successful tomorrow. Not just the creation but constructive criticism and analysis are also significant in order to excel in entrepreneurship.

Narrating his personal experiences, he highlighted that in the early days of his start up, he used to think as a customer and make changes if he felt so. He shared the tips for the initial stage of a successful business startup.

In all, the event was a great success wherein the students also interacted with the speaker with great interest. In the end, Ms. Singh admired the speaker for his in depth knowledge and she also wished him good luck for his future endeavors and Ms. Pavneet Kaur, Head of the department proposed a formal vote of thanks.

Alumni Association - Alumni Talk Mr. Gaurav Garg of Batch 2016-19

In order to keep the students motivated about their orientation towards their career, the Alumni Association of Baba Farid College organized an alumni talk for the students of the Department of Commerce via Microsoft Teams.

The alumnus for the talk was Mr. Gaurav Garg of Batch 2016-19 who interacted with the students on the topic 'A journey from college life to corporate life'. Presently, Mr. Garg is working as an intern in Grad2live.

Ms. Ayushi Kamra hosted the event and also introduced the guests to the students. Ms. Pavneet Kaur, Head of the department proposed a formal welcome to the Alumnus. Mr. Garg initially shared journey of the college and how his decision of choosing Baba Farid College proved out to be a turning point in his life in the positive direction. He also shared some tips about cracking interviews in corporate world. The entire session was quite interactive where the students were consistently asking questions from the guest.

Power Point Competition "Effect of Covid-19 on Economy"

The Coronavirus pandemic has largely affected the people around the world. Its spread has left businesses around the world counting costs and being skeptical about the recovery rates. With the aim of discussing opinions at the level of the students, the Commerce Department of Baba Farid College organized a Power Point competition at the level of the department via Microsoft Teams. The topic of the competition was 'Effect of Covid-19 on Economy'. Ms. Rabia Narang, Assistant Professor from the department welcomed the student and the other faculty members to the event. The chief guest of the event was Ms. Neetu Singh, Dean (Management & Commerce). The judge for the event was Dr. Harjeet Kour, Head (Department of Management) It was interesting to note that all the participants have come with the most undeniable observations about the impact of the situation on the economy. Moreover, they posed some significant solutions in their presentations as well. Out of 10 participants, Tamanna from B.Com sem 5th got first prize followed by Rubal of B.Com sem 3rd on the second place. Ms. Pavneet Kaur, Head of the parent department proposed a formal vote of thanks. On the whole, the event was a real success.

Product Craft Event - Innovative Business Idea

In order to brush up the real talent and explore minds of students, Department of Commerce, Baba Farid College organized an Inter-departmental PRODUCT CRAFT EVENT - An innovative business idea. In all, 11 teams shared their creative ideas on future technologies that can be turned into a creative business product. The Winners of the competition were team Manpreet and Agamjot from B.com 1st year followed by team Ritika and Garima of B.com final year.

Ms. Pavneet kaur, head of Department of commerce congratulated the winners and all the participants for sharing incredible ideas. She also motivated them to participate more and more in the upcoming events. Also she proposed a formal vote of thanks to the chief guest, judge, Heads of various departments, faculty members and students for sparing their time for the competition.

On the whole, the event was a success with exchange of varied vantages.

Baba Farid College organizes Speech Competition on COVID-19 and its impact

In order to brush up the oratory skills of the students and understand the impact of the pandemic from their perspectives, the Department of Commerce of Baba Farid College, Bathinda organized an inter-departmental speech competition on the topic "COVID-19: Impact of the Pandemic on Economy, Society and Higher Education" via Microsoft Teams. The students shared their views on the current scenario and how it is impacting our lives and society in general.

Ms. Neetu Singh, Dean (Faculty of Management & Commerce) was the chief guest of the event. It was remarkable to note that the students had in-depth opinions about the situation and they could clearly share their nuances of how the pandemic is affecting everyone. Generally, all the students concluded on a positive note that ultimately one needs to sustain a positive attitude in order to survive this scenario. Ms. Garima Gupta (B.Com 3rd year) won the competition followed by Ms. Simran Kaur (B.Com 2nd year) at the second position. Ms. Manpreet Kaur (B.Com 1st year) and Mr. Darvinder Singh (B.Com 3rd year) secured third place with a tie.

Ms. Neetu Singh congratulated the winners and all the participants for sharing incredible ideas. On the whole, the event was a success with exchange of varied vantages.

One Day Seminar cum Alumni Talk

In order to keep the students motivated, the Department of Commerce, Baba Farid College, Bathinda organized a one day Seminar on 'Importance of Higher Education' on 28th May, 2020 through Microsoft Teams. The keynote speaker of the seminar was Ms. Aman Sehgal, Entrepreneur, Jack Collections, Amritsar. More than 200 faculty members and students from various colleges and schools were a part of this Seminar. Ms. Amrit Taggar formally welcomed the guest speaker, the Principal, Dean (Management & Commerce), Heads of different departments, students to the e-seminar on the behalf of the department. The Speaker, Ms. Aman Sehgal is an Alumni of B.Com (Batch 2015-18) Department of Commerce, Baba Farid College, Bathinda. At present, she is pursuing MBA from Baba Farid College of Management & Technology, Bathinda. While pursuing her study, she has been assisting the family business of catering and presently, she has joined the Readymade Garments' Business (Jack Collection, Amritsar) with her husband. During her 3rd sem in MBA, she got placed in JARO EDUCATION with Rs. 7.5 lacs package. For this placement, she had to qualify 3 rounds of selection in JARO Education, where she was competing against the students from top most universities and colleges from all over India. Ms. Aman happens to be one of the only 2 candidates selected for the placement. In her address, she clearly highlighted that how her success could only be made possible through effective higher education. She highlighted to the students that in order to achieve mastery in any field, one needs to procure higher education. Moreover, she laid considerable emphasis on the choice of institution for the same. Through her thorough and effective presentation, she advised students to be very particular about their selection and gave best wishes to them to incite in themselves the ignition of studying and learning more and more. Ms. Ayushi Kamra proposed a formal vote of thanks on behalf of the department followed by Ms. Pavneet Kaur, Head of the department, who shared her concluding remarks. On the whole, the event was a great success with effective fulfillment of its objective. The students thoroughly enjoyed the seminar and also learnt a great deal from it. Congratulations to the Department of Commerce!

International Women's Day - 13th March, 2020

The Department of Commerce and Dance Club of Baba Farid College organized an inter-departmental Solo Dance Competition on 13th March, 2020 in the main seminar hall of the college. The event was only for the female students of the college. Around 26 students participated in the competition enthusiastically. It was commendable to witness beautiful and energetic dance performances of the students.

The competition was adjudged by Prof. Ayushi Kamra, Astt. Prof. in Commerce, who herself is a dance enthusiast and runs her own dance academy. The first position was bagged by Diksha from Department of Arts followed by Veerpal Kaur from Department of Arts at the second place. Finally, Akashdeep Kaur from Department of Commerce bagged third position.

The event witnessed various guest performances from students as well which included poetical recitation, monoacting and singing as well.

Ms. Neetu Singh, Dean Faculty of Management and Commerce and Mr. Narinder Singla, Dean student welfare , Baba Farid college congratulated the winners and awarded them with prizes. On the whole, the event was a real success.

Alumni Interaction on 26th February 2020

The Department of Commerce of Baba Farid College organized an Alumni Interaction on 26th February 2020, Wednesday. The event witnessed Mr. Jashandeep Singh Brar, Co-founder WE CARE (Canada), an alumnus of Baba Farid College (2015-18 batch student of B.Com (Prof.), who addressed the students currently pursuing their B.Com and M.Com. from the college. He interacted with the students to motivate them so that they could understand the meaning of life and its purpose. The whole session enthralled the students and motivated them to do something in their lives. He shared his entire journey which started from the Baba Farid College itself and how he became Co-founder of WE CARE in Canada and is working passionately in his area of interests. The students learned so many new things about career planning and success mantras from his experiences. Focusing on students' commerce foundation, his primary focus was to motivate them to get into entrepreneurships. He quoted that it was not easy to turn his dreams into reality without the guidance of his parents & mentors and that the presentations that he gave at the level of the college has really proved fruitful in his later life in boosting his self-confidence. He concluded the session by his advice that all the students must focus on their goals and work hard accordingly. The students enjoyed the session thoroughly and it was indeed a great success.

Visit to old age home in "Shri Ram Mandir Trust", Bathinda on 9 November 2019

Students of BCom 1st year of commerce department organized a visit to old age home in "Shri Ram Mandir Trust", Bathinda on 9 November 2019 as their live project activity under the guidance of Ms. Veerpal Kaur. The main motive behind the activity was to meet, interact and enjoy with the people who are do not live with their families. As the event was for social cause, the students organized various recreational and fun activities for them which included singing competition, spoon race, musical chair and many more. The residents thoroughly enjoyed these activities and actively participated as well. The winners were given small gifts as prizes. Students also distributed some fruits, blankets, biscuits, rusk to them. The manager Mr. Ashok Kumar introduced the students to the aged. The activity ended on a positive note, with so many memories and learnings from Shri Ram Mandir trust's residents and staff members. At the end of the day, the students took love and blessings with them from old age home. The students are very thankful to the management of Baba Farid College who gave them an opportunity for this great work and contribute in different ways to make this activity a success.

Business Quiz

The B.com 1st year students of the commerce department organized "Business Quiz" under their live project activity at intradepartmental level on 8th November, 2019. The event witnessed an active participation of around 64 students (32 teams). There were two rounds in the quiz. Round 1 was MCQ based (written test) based on general knowledge and 5 shortlisted teams competed in the round 2 which was surprise round (oral) wherein the participants were asked about various business tycoons and company logos/taglines. These kind of activities provide a great way to enhance knowledge of the students. After a final tie-breaker round, Tushar and Chirag of BCom 3rd sem got First position, followed by Karan and Deepak of BCom 3rd sem at second place and Parveen and Harpreet of BCom 5th sem got 3rd position. The winners were duly rewarded and congratulated.

Elocution competition on Why Indians are moving to abroad

The B.com 1st year students of the commerce department organized Elocution competition on the topic "Why Indians are moving to abroad" under their live project activity at interdepartmental level on 7th November, 2019. Around 14 students participated in the event. These kind of activities provide a great way to encourage young hidden talent to prosper. In this competition, Ashmita from BCom 1st sem got 1st position and Manpreet kaur from BCom 1st sem was placed at 2nd position. The event was a real success with exchange of good ideas by the budding speakers. The winners were duly rewarded and congratulated.

Diwali Celebrations

The BCom 1st year students of the commerce department organized Diwali celebrations under their live project activity at the departmental level. The event included rangoli competition and thali decoration competition. Around 25 students were involved in both the activities as participants. These activites provide a great way to encourage young hidden talent to prosper. In rangoli competition, Gursmeet and Amritpal from BCom 1st year got first positions followed by Pooja and Husanpreet from BCom1st year who were placed at 2nd place and Simran and team from MCom 1st bagged 3rd position. In thali decoration competition, Bhawana from BCom 1st year was declared the winner. The students really enjoyed the event by bringing out beautiful artwork through colors. On the whole, the event ended on a successful note.

Live project activity on 23 Oct 2019

Students of B.com 1st year, Department of commerce, Baba Farid College organized a live project activity on 23 Oct 2019 for Deaf and Dumb students in "Mahant Gurbanta Das School for Deaf and Dumb, Batinda" under the guidance of their Faculty. The main motive behind this activity was to celebrate Diwali with deaf and dumb students and to spread a positive feeling among students of Baba Farid College and give them an opportunity to enjoy with students who are disable but differently able.

As the event was for social cause, students organized some re-creational activities for deaf and dumb students, which included Pot Decoration, Rangoli Making, Diya Decoration and Candle Decoration.

Students of Mahant Gurbanta Das School participated in the above said events very actively. It was so much difficult to select the top performers as all the students were best in their own different way. The winner students were given prizes and small gifts to all the participants were also given. Students of Baba Farid College also distributed sweets and gifts to the students of Mahant Gurbanta Das School, in their classes.

Students reached there around 10.00 am and met the co-coordinator Mrs. Daljinder Kaur. All the staff members were very supportive they gave little instructions to all the students regarding sign language to communicate with the deaf and dumb students. The students were so delighted to meet and expressed their happiness with some actions. Co-Coordinator Mrs. Daljinder Kaur showered blessings to all the volunteers of the events and expressed her thanks to the students of Baba Farid College for this kind effort.

Art Fair on 11th Oct., 2019

"Art Fair" activity was organised by students of M.Com. on Friday (11.10.19). It had three events: BFGI logo making, Karwa chauth thali decoration and Mela likhariya da. 43 students from various streams participated in the event. The winners were awarded by the Judges with gifts. Overall, the activity was well organised by students with full enthusiasm.

HoBoPo Quiz on 10th October 2019

Department of Commerce, Baba Farid College organized HoBoPo Quiz on 10th of October 2019 which was all about the combination of Hollywood, bollywood and pollywood movies. There was an overwhelming response from the students as there were more than 300 participants. Enthusiasm and excitement could very well be seen in the students about the quiz. There were total of three rounds, in which all the contestants showed great interest and excelled out with their immense knowledge in the field. It was a neck to neck competition where at the end Tulsi and Leeza from B.com Final Year stood First, Yatin and Sonakshi from BBA 2nd Year bagged Second position and Avinash and Rommy stood Third from BBA 3rd Year They were awarded with cash prize of Rs.1,000 (First Prize), Rs.500 (Second Prize), Rs.200 (Third Prize) along with trophies and certificates. Overall it was a mega event and college will keep on organizing such kind of events because it helps in overall development of the students.

Fashion Show on 11th October, 2019

The students of B.Com 1st year of Baba Farid College organized Theme Fashion Show under their live project activity in the main seminar hall of the college on 11th October 2019. The fashion show was theme based and the participants were to represent a particular theme through their attire and body language be it any particular regional culture, work place fashion etc. The event received a fulfilling response with more than 50 entries from the students. There were 3 rounds in the show. Round One was based on their ramp walk. The shortlisted candidates introduced themselves and showcased their talent in the second round. The final results were declared after the question round. Satnam Singh from MBA 1st sem and Akashdeep Kaur from BCom 1st sem were adjudged Mr. and Ms. Talented respectively. Parwinder Singh from BCom 1st sem bagged the title of Mr. Handsome and Ramandeep Kaur from BCom 3rd sem was declared Ms. Charming. Khushwinder Singh from MA English 1st sem and Bhawana from BCom 1st sem were adjudged best performers.

The stage was handled by the Khushdeep, Shivani and Rupali, students of the department. The student audience thoroughly enjoyed the event which also showcased various dance and singing guest performances by the students. Dean Academic Affairs congratulated the organizing committee of the students and the concerned advisor and the entire department for a successful event.
