We have well established plant nursery, acquainting students with horticultural and floricultural aspects. There are two well equipped labs with latest equipments, instruments, specimens and chemicals providing facilities for Soil and Water testing, seed quality testing, diagnosing plant samples for diseases and insects attack, recording weather observations, milk testing and preparing various milk products, animal care and management, land surveying etc. to enable students in tackling problems encountered by farmers in farming. Besides this, the department of agriculture is also equipped with hi-tech facilities like wi-fi system for internet access. We are also putting our efforts to provide research oriented education to the students of B.Sc (agriculture). For this, we have subscriptions of number of journals and agriculture magazines. It is worth mentioning here that the department has Ph.D. holder, NET qualified and experienced staff in the field of Agronomy, Agrometeorology, Entomology, Horticulture, Plant pathology Soils, Botany and Zoology.
In its brief history, the department has organized a number of one day seminars and extensions/guest lectures on agriculture and other current issues. Dr. M.S. Kang Vice Chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana chaired one of the such seminars on agriculture. He appreciated the infrastructural facilities and contribution of the institution to the region. The students of the department have grabbed various top positions in the university examinations. I order to give the vast exposure to the students, the department arranges a number of educational tours to Agricultural Universities, various Kisan melas, Research centers, Dairy centers and Progressive farms etc. A placement cell has been established in the institute. The institute also invites various multinational companies for the placement of pass out students. |
