Department of English, Baba Farid College organized an extension lecture by Prof. (Dr.) Gulshan Rai Kataria, Department of English, Punjabi University, Patiala on the topic “Evolution of Drama from Shakespeare to Modern era”. After the formal welcome address by Prof. Hardeep Mann, Head, Dept. of English, Prof. Kataria was invited to the dais for his lecture. In his lecture, Prof. Kataria traced out the trajectory along which drama has evolved over the centuries. He stressed that drama has become more complex and thought-provoking in the modern era. Elizabethan drama was character-centred, dealing with the evolution of a character over a period of time and through a series of incidents. It didn’t require a conscious effort on the part of the audience to comprehend it. However, in the twentieth century, drama has become thought-centred and has become a vehicle of raising issues related to life and existence. It necessarily does not provide solutions to the problems which are raised in the drama. Often, these plays are open-ended, with numerous interpretations as well as varied solutions to the issues discussed possible. The audience is required to be attentive and active. The stage devices and techniques of dramatization have also become markedly better and the playwrights/ directors use light, sound and other devices to create the desired effect. The lecture was followed by a discussion session which saw a wholesome participation on behalf of the students and faculty and a healthy, critical and lively discussion took place. Prof. Pardeep Kaura, Associate Director, Baba Farid College delivered the vote of thanks. The stage was conducted by Prof. Nishtha Mahajan.

Department of English, Baba Farid College organized an extension lecture by Prof. (Dr.) Paramjit Singh Romana, Department of Post Graduate Studies in English, Punjabi University Regional Centre, Bathinda on the topic “Freudian Psychoanalysis”. During the course of the lecture, Dr. Romana laid special emphasis on Lionel Trilling’s essay “Freud and Literature”. Prof. Romana emphasized the need to understand the various aspects related to Freudian Psychoanalysis from the very basics. He talked in detail about the fundamental terms such as conscious, unconscious, sub-conscious, Id, Ego and Super-ego etc. so as to make the students aware of the various facets associated with Psychoanalytical literature. He also discussed all the four parts of the essay “Freud and Literature” so as to imbibe an inquisitive outlook in the students of Masters in English. After the lecture a discussion session was organized wherein all the students participated whole heartedly. Prof. Jashandeep Kaur and Prof. Hardeep Mann, Head, Dept. of English, thanked Prof. Dr. Romana for sparing time out of his busy schedule to deliver the lecture. They also thanked the faculty and the department for organizing the event.

An Extension Lecture on the topic “Problems of Spoken English”
The department of English today organized an extension lecture of Dr. D.V. Jindal on the topic "Problems of Spoken English" and some remedial steps. Dr. Jindal traveled all the way from Ludhiana to inculcate some linguistic and phonetic skills in the students. He carried with him handouts so that practical teaching of linguistics can be imparted to the young scholars of literature. He talked about certain problematic areas related to linguistics where the students face dificulty in understanding. He demonstrated specific ways in which difficult words can be spoken. He also taught the students about pronunciation of difficult words in which noting the area of Primary and Secondary stress becomes difficult to the students. Madam Rimpu Arora conducted the stage. Prof. H.S. Mann, Head, Department of English welcomed Prof. D.V. Jindal and said that his lecture would highly benefit the young students to understand the subject in a better way. Mr. B.D. Sharma, Head, Dept. Career Guidance and Counselling delivered the vote of thanks to Dr. D.V. Jindal for paying kind visit to Baba Farid Group of Institutions. |
Topic : "Romantic Era in History of English Literature"
To illuminate the students on 17th Feb. 2010, an extension lecture was codified by the department of English of Baba Farid college. The Lecture was graced by reverent luminary Prof. Dr. Jagroop Singh Warring (Guru Kashi Regional Centre,Bathinda). He apprised the students about “Romantic era in History of English Literature”.
